Save Money on your Quilting in 2025
Dec 31, 2024Sometimes we all make impulse purchases. The yard of fabric you couldn't leave without at your local fabric store, the pattern for the quilt you loved at the Show. But at other times we know in advance what we need and set out to find it. Here are some tips to save money this year:
1. Use More Coupons
Coupons are now frequently digital and can appear either on websites or in newsletters. Often a site will offer 10% or more off if you sign up for their newsletter and provide your cell phone number. Worried about being inundated with texts and emails? Don't be. Data laws are very strict and so you can unsubscribe from most marketing texts by simply replying STOP. Emails need to have an unsubscribe link at the bottom by law so if something if no longer useful to you, exercise your click-power!
2. Save Big Purchases for the Sales
You know most stores will have a Black Friday sale and there are often sales at other times of year. Don't be afraid to ask a store when they are planning their next sale.

3. Buy Previously Owned
"Previously owned" doesn't always mean "used". There are now consignment stores and stores that divert products from landfill where you can find unused yardage and patterns, notions and even sewing machines. A great example for people in the US is Feel Good Fibers. Estate Sales, where the departed was a woman, and thrift stores are also great places to look.
4. Take Your Time
If you don't need something immediately, you can afford to take a little time to shop around. I have a list on my phone's Notes app of "nice to haves" which includes "pink/purple fabric" and "applique scissors" so that when I come across finds I can check what I am looking for. If I'm buying online there are price tracker tools like camelcamelcamel.com for Amazon. With it you can see how the price of an item has fluctuated (you'll be surprised!) and set it to alert you when it falls to a particular level.
5. Do your Homework
If a deal in a Facebook or Instagram ad seems too good to be true - it probably is. Look at the comments and google the business name to see if there are any comments of complaints from earlier customers. Facebook and Instagram do not check the validity of ads before running them and there are a lot of frauds out there. Instead, find out if your local quilt store has a website or ask friends for a recommendation.
I hope these tips help you save some money in 2025!
